Condos in Downtown Walnut Creek
Our tour of Walnut Creek continues, and today we're going to talk about downtown Walnut Creek Condos, specifically the luxury version. If you drive around downtown Walnut Creek, it looks like almost all the buildings are what you'd call luxury places, except most of them, believe it or not, are apartments. You can't buy them. You can only lease them.
What’s in Downtown Walnut Creek Condos?
There are surprisingly not that many luxury condos in downtown Walnut Creek. One bedroom, condos start in about the mid $400,000 range, and for that you get parking, washer, and dryer, a nice open concept living space, secure parking, and it's downtown Walnut Creek, so you can just leave your car there and just walk to everything. There are larger complexes like the Mercer that's on North California, right across from the Lesher Center that has about 200 units, but there's a bunch of other smaller, newer ones dotted around the area too. And there are about a dozen or so units, three bedrooms there can be pretty costly. They can go all the way into the two millions and more, but you have the space. Some of them have pools, some don't. Some have roof decks. They all have community areas where you can grill some cheeseburgers or some steaks because most places they don't allow grills on your patio because they don't want you to burn the place down. But there's always private storage. There's private parking and all the amenities that a luxury building give you.
Are Condos in Downtown Walnut Creek affordable?
Homeowners association dues are about mid five-hundreds and up, and that includes trash, water, sewer, everything you'd expect, exterior maintenance, and all the usual stuff. Most of the people that live in downtown Walnut Creek Condos, it's kind of a mix of downsizers. The people that don't need the two story mansion anymore, they want to be close to the action in downtown Walnut Creek. And a condo is very suitable, or working professionals, sometimes with a kid, maybe a second one on the way, but they're eyeballing their way out of town because they need some more space, and need a backyard. So the turnover in downtown Walnut Creek condos is usually pretty good. The reason why people live there, of course, is because it's downtown Walnut Creek. It means access to shopping restaurants. Broadway Plaza, BART, you can walk to BART. There's everything that you need. You do not need to get in your car, especially on weekends. I used to live in downtown Walnut Creek. I had to drag my wife kicking and screaming out of there. We would move back someday, but we just have to wait for the kids to get a little older.
